Adventurous Appetites Seville Roman Bike Tour

COMBINE FRESH AIR, SIGHTSEEING, EATING AND STUNNING ROMAN RUINS ON A HALF-DAY MOUNTAIN BIKE TRIP TO ITALICA

Join us on a fantastic bike tour to the Old Roman City of ITALICA, the first Roman Colonial City founded in “Hispania”, at just 9km from Seville

Escape the city and enjoy a beautiful morning riding a mountain bike along the River Guadalquivir and through the sunny countryside around Seville to discover the mystery of the ancient city of Italica,

Visit the Amphitheatre where the gladiators fought for glory, the Houses, the Theatre, the Thermal Baths,  Discover  how the Romans used to live in this stunning site, which saw the birth of two Roman Emperors, and brought the luxury of Rome to Italica and Spain.

The meeting-point:

The tour starts at 10:00 a.m  at Bike Centre Sevilla in Los Jardines de Murillo (Paseo Catalina de Ribera Nº2, Sevilla), where you will receive your bike, helmet and a snack and water pack (to see a map of the meeting point please click here).

The bike ride:

A safe, comfortable and almost flat ride, by designated bike path in the urban area  and then by dirt road without cars as we move away from the city. No great physical ability is required; for regular bikers it will be a pleasant and effortless pedal, and if you are not such an expert cyclist, you´ll just need more water, a more plentiful lunch and you will sleep like a baby at night, maybe a little saddle-sore but content at having completed the challenge!

Your Guide:

Your expert local cycle guide will take you along some of the the best tracks between Seville and Santiponce/Italica, making brief stops to show you points of special interest. They will explain the history and origins of this ancient city, and will guide you through some of the most impressive parts of the Roman archaeological complex.

 Lunch:

After a morning’s biking and sightseeing you will undoubtedly be starving!! We  will refuel with a 3-course "Menu del Dia", or daily menu (Tue-Fri) or weekend menu (Sat-Sun), where you will have a wide choice from which to pick a starter, a main course (meat, fish or vegetarian) followed either by dessert or coffee, washed down by a Spanish wine, beer or soft drink. (NB: Additional food and drinks outside of the fixed menu are to be paid for by the client.)

Return to Seville:

We will return to Seville along another route which will take us through fields and along the river.

TOURS ARE NOT REALLY SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 14 YEARS

Adventurous Appetites Seville Roman Bike Tours will be run and billed by Adventurous Appetites Activities Ltd Registered Co. Number: 7899011, Registered in England and Wales and are subject to English law.

Unfortunately it has just been announced that the main archaeological complex of Italica will be shut between 3rd and 18th May 2018 as they film the last season of Game of Thrones. This means we will not be able to take you round the site on your tour.

HOWEVER during this period they will be opening the Roman Theatre outside the main complex, which until now has not been open to the public.

To compensate for it being shut, over this period, we would be delighted to replace it with a self-guided visit to the Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo (whose monks actually discovered Italica), which offers a stunning wander around the tranquility of the little-visited Monastery with its porticos, claustra and amazing murals. Please click on the photos below to get an idea.

Unfortunately due to Covid we have been obliged to close our Seville Activities. We hope to be able to reopen them one day but in the meantime please do join us in Madrid!
